Final Reflection Blog Post

Thinking back on the semester, I feel I have developed a good idea of what technology is available to a teacher out there on the net. I can see the importance of showing a young student how to keep track of their digital footprint and then introducing them to safer ways to access the web. I feel it is very important for a student to understand the plethora of information and assorted technology available at their fingertips, and learning how to incorporate this resource into their learning schema.
I am not sure at this point which technologies I will use in my classroom. I have two years before that is a possibility and I know by then many things will have changed. Depending on where I locate employment, I will determine what the school policy recommends and what resources are already available. I feel comfortable having worked with the multimedia’s I have been introduced to and think I can adapt to whatever software is available. I hope to learn more about smart boards as they seem to be the most common resource in the classroom today.
My thoughts about using technology in the classroom have changed slightly since the beginning of the semester. I have learned there is a lot more opportunity to use the computer in the classroom than I realized. I still feel there is a need for learning that is not technology based but feel every subject can include a component requiring the use of a computer for schools that can provide the needed resources.
I advise myself in the future to try to think outside the box when technology is involved. I need to remember how far we have come. There is so much more available than a few years ago that the opportunity is practically endless.

twitter in the classroom

This seems to be another way to intruduce technology into the classroom - it is a way to keep students on task and a option for collaberation - and since it is limited to 140 characters it keeps it breif - in a college setting it is a way to give a large class a tool for interaction - this morning on the View they were talking about tweets and the law - should you get in trouble if you don't tweet to avoid injury?  Interesting

Google docs

I think google doc offers all kinds of opportunity for the classroom experience - as demonstrated by our presentations there is alot that can be shared thru this instrument

Using Wiki

I was excited to be introduced to Wiki - it seems to provide acces that blogger doesn't - I think they compliment each other well - depending on your need in the classroom they have different advantages and disadvantages - but both can provide a usefull service

My opinion - using blogs in the classroom

I have found that kids today are allready blogging at a very young age so I suppose that using it as a classroom tool would be very easy for them - the only problem I can think of is what happens when the power goes out? I am fairly new to this kind of technology so am excited to see what all this can lead to - Thank You
